Position Description Performs advanced, specialized work to assist in the organization and implementation of various projects and programs. Work is performed under minimal supervision within established policies with latitude for independent judgment. Works on special projects as assigned. May substitute for supervisor during his/her absence.

Major/Essential Functions The Benefits Specialist is responsible for day-to-day operations of the employee group health plans and retirement plans. Duties include keying benefit transactions, responding to employee inquiries, and processing Medical Support Orders. This role is responsible for educating and assisting employees from the onboarding process to the termination process. Duties also include creating informational communications, including, but not limited to emails, posters, webinars, seminars, and annual enrollment announcements. Must be proficient in word, excel, and PowerPoint.

Must possess the competencies of confidentiality, dependability, interpersonal skills, diversity, initiative, and accountability. Must uphold the values and mission of the organization.

Occasional Duties Ordering supplies for department, relief for reception desk, and assist Specialist IV position. Projects as assigned by Director of Benefits.

Required Qualifications High school plus six years experience in related field. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications Two years experience in a Human Resources office preferred. Knowledge of routine office practices and methods. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and the ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group setting to assist stakeholders of the organization.

Minimum Hire Rate 14.48

Pay Statement Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.
