St. Joseph Health Laboratory Assistant in Lubbock, Texas
Job Summary: Performs routine collection procedures, assists technologists and technicians in Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, and Histology. Processes laboratory specimens. Coordinates and performs clerical/reception, client/patient/customer related duties pertaining to laboratory testing and relays information between the laboratory, other hospital areas and clients.Essential Functions:1. Performs limited collection procedures ensuring proper identification of patient and proper venipuncture procedure.2. Performs urinalysis testing under the supervision of the section supervisor.3. Performs processing of specimens and blood products including blood release in Hematology, Chemistry, and Blood Bank under the supervision of the section supervisor.4. Assists in the set up of Microbiology cultures and performs limited testing in Microbiology under The supervision of the section supervisor.5. Receives and accurately processes all patient specimens.6. Researches new reference laboratory tests for specimen requirements, turnaround times and charges.7. Editing of laboratory requisitions for correct billing and reporting information.8. Slotting of all patient reports9. Relay test results and billing information accurately.Minimum Position Qualifications:Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Ability to understand and communicate in English orally and in writing.Preferred Position Qualifications:Laboratory experiencePhlebotomy experienceMedical TerminologyComputer experience to include Windows Excel and Word
